The
mission of the Surabaya International School Library is to support the
school curriculum, promote the appreciation of literature, and teach
information skills. The library serves SIS students, parents, and the
faculty and staff with its collection of over 26,000 print and
non-print materials using Follett’s web-based DESTINY circulation and
catalog programs.
| SIS
patrons are invited to use the Surabaya International School Library
for browsing, reading, viewing, listening, meeting and researching.
Materials available in the Library include books, magazines,
newspapers, and comprehensive print and online reference
resources. The fiction and non-fiction print collections are
divided into three reading levels for our students: Easy (E) for
Pre-Kdg. through grade 2, Juvenile (J) for grades 3 through 8, and
Young Adult (YA) for grades 9 through 12. |
| The library facility is a wireless hub for the school and is a printing
center for the secondary students. Subscriptions to six online
databanks are maintained by the Library and the IT Department and are
accessed by students and teachers using the SIS Academic Portal. All
AV software and hardware for the school, is housed in the Library. The
Teacher's Resource area in the Library maintains an up-to-date
collection of professional books, periodicals, and catalogs from
experts in the field of education from around the world.
| The
SIS Library is open every school day from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00
p.m. Special opening hours are in effect during holiday and
vacation times. All elementary classes meet with the librarian
once in each six day cycle for sessions in literature and information
literacy, and for book check-out. ES teachers bring their
students to the Library for additional book check-outs each week. Our
ES school celebrates reading each month with Ring & Read , a
school-wide sustained reading time in the Library. The Librarian
is available to all SIS teachers to collaborate in the planning and
delivery of any information literacy need. The Librarian supports
the literature needs of students in MS and HS in a variety of ways
including booktalks, preparing class collections of F and NF materials,
an afterschool book club, an annual Book Fair hosting local book
vendors, informal book swaps, and the sponsoring of peer recommendation
tools. After school activities in the Library include a book
recommendation club called BIBLIOMANIA, and BookWorms, BookBugs, and
BookCooks, clubs for younger students celebrating reading and books and
the Arts. |
| The SIS Library is a flexible facility and can be used by multiple
groups simultaneously. Displays, class performances, visiting authors,
research projects, community events, faculty meetings, student testing,
SSR, afterschool homework and study halls, audio-visual viewing, Open
House, and holiday celebrations are all activities that find a home in
this spacious setting.
